Whether your goal is to prevent crime or to address current opportunities in your neighborhood, the Hiram Police Department Neighborhood Watch Program is an excellent starting point. Neighborhood Watch is a group of neighbors watching out for each other for the common good. The group meets at scheduled dates to bring you up to date on what has been happening in our City and in your neighborhood.
How It Works
We have neighbors who volunteer to be street captains and to operate the phone tree. Captains call the phone tree volunteers, who in turn call the people on their phone tree list.
However, if you see anything or anyone out of the ordinary or that you feel just isn't right, call 9-1-1 first. The citizens of Hiram need to watch out for each other. The success of the program is up to the community!
Security Survey
The first purpose of a home security inspection is to identify features in your home or the daily routines of your family which might make your home an easy target for a burglar.
Conduct a Home Identification / Survey at home. You will need:
- Camera
- Video recorder
- Permanent marker or engraver (if available)
- Paper for inventory
Process
You will take pictures of your valuable inventory and walk through your home with the video recorder making sure to record furniture and possessions in each room. Mark items that can be easily removed from your home with the permanent marker or engraver.
You should inventory the serial numbers to all the items you record annually. You can use the Valuable Property Record for this. If there is no number available, make an engraving or permanent mark on the item with a symbol or initials. Store all your inventoried information in a fire safe or safe deposit box. If you own a firearm, you should record all serial numbers and identifying traits.
